Heritage Festival draws thousands each fall

Annual fundraiser features arts, crafts, food, music, and more

NEWFANE — The 49th annual Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the Common in front of the historic Windham County Courthouse.

This event, which benefits the Newfane Congregational Church, draws thousands of visitors each October from around the world.

Amid the colorful fall foliage on the village streets and surrounding hillsides, talented artists and craftspeople display their creative efforts. Locals and tourists return year after year for this signature event in southeastern Vermont.

Juried arts, crafts, and specialty products are sold in the 91 spaces by new exhibitors and long-time favorites alike.

Other highlights include the church's homemade apple pies, the Church Deli and outdoor food tent, children's activities, and live music.

The Super Raffle, one of the festival's most popular events which will take place at the Union Hall, will feature more than 165 prizes. Donations by local businesses include gift certificates for fine dining, casual dining, auto repairs, and garden supplies.

Many of the artists and craftspeople displaying on the Common donate pieces of their work to the Super Raffle. Tickets are sold 3 for $1, or 20 for $5.

New this year will be additional parking at the Newfane Flea Market on Route 30, as the Four Columns Inn can no longer allow parking in their fields. Shuttle buses will be running throughout the day.
