Memorial Day service in Dummerston

DUMMERSTON - The town of Dummerston and Evening Star Grange will sponsor their traditional Memorial Day Program on Thursday, May 30, with the Brattleboro American Legion Band doing a mini-concert at 6:30 p.m. on the Dummerston Center Common. The rest of the program will begin at 7 p.m.

The featured speaker will be Tristan Johnson, a resident of Newfane and a Vietnam veteran. Celebrants should bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy the music and program in the fresh Vermont air. In case of rain, the program will be inside the Grange Hall. Refreshments will be served following the program.

Chester Plant Sale this weekend

CHESTER - The Chester Plant Sale at St. Luke's Church, the gray church at 313 Main St. near the Village Green, is an opportunity for people to purchase an impressive selection of proven, large, healthy, hardy plants at bargain prices. Well-groomed plants with helpful labels make garden additions easy, and experienced gardeners will be on hand to give advice about planting and garden design.

The sale is scheduled to run on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., both days; and on Sunday June 2, noon to 3 p.m. The later timing of this annual event allows for larger and more attractive plants - all organized by kind of plant and growing needs on the side lawn of the church. People who have perennials to contribute in advance or plants to suggest or who need more information are encouraged to contact Lillian Willis at 802-875-1340 or [email protected].

Plant sale benefits Friends of the Rockingham Library

BELLOWS FALLS - The Friends of the Rockingham Library's annual Plant Sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. until noon at the library, 65 Westminster St. There will be a variety of plants - floral, herbal, and vegetable - this year, as well as gardening books for guidance. Participants can also plan to visit the library's new addition - a seed library, as well as the library's plans for its library soil and hydroponic gardens.

The Friends of the Library will also be partnering with the Bellows Falls Woman's Club to rededicate the grandfather clock that was the Club's gift to the library in 1909. It has recently been brought back to life, thanks to library patron and volunteer Rick Matthews. The re-dedication will take place at 11:45 a.m., so all may listen to the noon chimes of this beautiful clock, followed by a reception with snacks provided by the acclaimed bakers of the Woman's Club.
