BRATTLEBORO-The Palestine Film Series committee sends a big "thank you" to everyone who participated in the second annual screening of Palestinian documentaries and feature films at Latchis Theatre.
On four consecutive Sunday afternoons in March and April, the Main Theater filled with audiences who came away with a deeper understanding of the enormous challenges and simple pleasures of life in occupied Palestine.
We are especially grateful for the partnership of Jon Potter and Latchis Arts, who worked closely with us. Thanks, too, to representatives of local groups, Jewish Voice for Peace Vermont-New Hampshire, Action Corps, The Root Social Justice Center, and Everyone's Books, working for positive social change.
The Palestine Film Series netted $750, which we will donate to a project in North Gaza that will provide community organizer Yousef El Mabayed, his family, and neighbors with much-needed food, water, and supplies. This community has been forcibly displaced numerous times and is struggling to survive in a war zone.
Yousef is an emerging writer who publishes stories on We Are Not Numbers and other websites. One of his essays, "Memories of My Life at Home," was the basis for a 2024 collaborative video, "Vermonters Read for Gaza," with participants from around the state. Donors may contribute to the fund at idonate.ie/crowdfunder/gazarelief.
