Hands-on magic workshop at Putney Library

PUTNEY - Join visiting artist Phina Pipia at Putney Public Library on Thursday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m., for a magic workshop.

This workshop is appropriate for ages 6 and up. Pipia will be performing their solo puppet show, Ha Ha Da Vinci, as part of Sandglass Theater's Summer Series (see announcement in this issue's Arts listings). This event is free.

Book and bake sale benefits Friends of Townshend Library

TOWNSHEND - The Friends of Townshend Library hosts its annual Book & Bake Sale on Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Townshend Town Hall on Route 30.

Browsers will find a variety of wonderful, gently used books. All are invited to stop by, mingle, and try locally baked treats on sale. All funds raised go to the Townshend Public Library for books and programs for the community.

All-Village yard sale set for May 24

SAXTONS RIVER - On Saturday, May 24, there will be an All-Village Yard Sale in Saxtons River from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, May 25, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Halifax hosts plant swap Saturday

WEST HALIFAX - The Halifax Community Club hosts its fifth annual Edie Fenton Memorial Plant Swap at the Halifax Community Hall, 20 Brook Rd., on Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The plant swap honors friend, neighbor, gardener, and Community Club member Edie Fenton, who died in early 2020 just before the first spring bulbs emerged from her well-tended plant beds.

Participants may bring plants to share and to take annuals, perennials, and seedlings for their garden. The café at the Hall will be open during the plant swap, offering baked goods, coffee/tea, and sandwiches. The Hall is wheelchair-accessible, including an accessible bathroom.

Brookline holds town-wide yard sale

BROOKLINE - Join the folks in Brookline for their town-wide Yard Sale on Saturday May 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event gives sellers the opportunity to do some spring cleaning and gives yard sale enthusiasts the chance to find some treasures. There will be more than 10 participants at their homes, garages, driveways, and yards around the town, selling antiques, collectibles, household items, tools, toys, clothing, and more.

Plant sale at Wardsboro Library

WARDSBORO - The Trustees of the Wardsboro Public Library present its annual Memorial Day Weekend Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the front lawn of the library at 170 Main St. Admission and parking are free. Plant sale is held rain or shine.

There will be a variety of locally grown perennials, annuals, shrubs, vegetables, herbs and, of course, Gilfeather turnip seedlings and seeds.

Donations of perennials and shrubs are welcome. For help digging and separating, contact Ann Loftus at [email protected]. Pots for transplants will be available on the porch entrance to the library.

Plant sale at Kindle Farm School

TOWNSHEND - Kindle Farm School's annual plant sale is Saturday and Sunday, May 24 and 25, at the farm stand on Route 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will have an abundance of annual and perennial flowers, herbs, vegetables, and more than 20 varieties of tomatoes.

Proceeds benefit the Kindle Farm Vocational Program and its multitude of offerings, including maple sugaring, tractor safety, horticulture, and forest management.

Custer Sharp hosts kids art exhibit

LONDONDERRY - Stop by the Londonderry Arts and Historical Society's Custer Sharp House to enjoy an art exhibit featuring the works of Flood Brook School students from grades K–8. Be inspired by the creativity and talents of these students exploring art through different media and showcasing their best work.

The exhibit will be open to the public on Saturday, May 24, and Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Custer Sharp House is located at 2461 Middletown Rd. For more information, visit LAHSvt.org.

Senior meal in Dummerston

DUMMERSTON - Evening Star Grange and Senior Solutions will present their second senior lunch for May on Wednesday, May 28, with take-outs available between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the in-house meal served at noon.

Reservations are strongly suggested and can be made by calling the Grange at 802-254-1138 and leaving a name, telephone number, the number of meals wanted, and whether they are for eating in or taking away. Walk-ins are welcome but the reservations greatly help organizers know how much food to make.

A donation of $4 for those 60 and older and eating in-house, and $5 for those 59 and younger and all take-outs is suggested. The menu for this meal is meatloaf, vegetarian meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, and buttered green beans, with pineapple upside down cake for dessert.

Lifeguards needed in Putney

PUTNEY - The Putney town pool is hiring lifeguards for the 2025 season. Local certification and recertification courses are available. Candidates must be at least 15 years old on or before the last day of the course.
