Music of Beethoven presented June 1

BRATTLEBORO-"Music of Beethoven," with Bruce Griffin at the piano will be presented at the Brattleboro Music Center (BMC) Sunday, June 1, at 3 p.m.

Griffin, a BMC Faculty member, presents a program that traces the composer's evolution through three creative periods. Included in the program are Sonata No. 5 in C minor, Op. 10, No. 1; Sonata No. 13 in E-flat major, Op. 27, No. 1, "Quasi una fantasia"; Andante favori WoO 57; and Sonata No.32 in C minor, Op. 111.

A native of Vermont, Griffin received his formal musical training at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. In 1986, he made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall, after which Bernard Holland of The New York Times described his playing as "serious and imaginative," giving "unusual warmth and virtuosity" to the music, and wrote he exhibited an "exceptional feel for melody's magnetic pull."

Griffin has appeared in solo recitals and chamber music programs throughout the country as well as with the Vermont Symphony and Tacoma Symphony Orchestras. He joined the BMC faculty in 1990.

Admission is by donation. All donations will support BMC programming. For more information, call 802-257-4523 or email [email protected].
