BRATTLEBORO-June is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association as "Alzheimer's and Brain Health Awareness Month" (ABAM) and Brooks Memorial Library and the Vermont chapter of the Alzheimer's Association are collaborating to raise awareness in Brattleboro.
Beginning Wednesday, June 4, and running through June 24, "Moments in Time: Works by Vermonters with Dementia," will be on display in the library. The exhibit consists of 23 pieces from 13 individual artists and two collages created from art submissions from residences and adult day centers in Vermont.
The collection includes a variety of visual art, a wood carving, quilts, and a mobile, highlighting the diversity and creativity of individuals with dementia.
Two accompanying public events will be held at the library as part of ABAM. On Friday, June 6, at 3:30 p.m., there will be an opening reception for "Moments in Time," featuring remarks by Jeremy Aldridge, a Brattleboro resident who has four pieces in the exhibit and State Rep. Mollie Burke, a former art teacher.
On Wednesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m., an education program, "Healthy Living for your Brain and Body," will be delivered by Jo Cotto, senior program manager for the Vermont chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
"Moments in Time" will be displayed throughout the library - hanging from the mezzanine, on the first floor, and in a showcase on the second floor. In addition to the artwork, information will be available on the warning signs of dementia, as well as the Alzheimer's 24/7 Helpline 800-272-3900, a free and confidential resource.
All events are free. For more information, visit brookslibraryvt.org/event/moments-in-time-opening-reception.
