Dark Wing series author will speak in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO-On Saturday, June 14, at 3 p.m., ByWay Books & More, 399 Canal St., hosts Walter H. Hunt, the creator of the popular Dark Wing space adventure series.

Hunt has worked for nearly 20 years as a software engineer and technical writer in high tech. His writing "reflects an abiding interest in history, but science fiction has been his favorite reading material since he watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon," according to his author page on the Simon & Schuster website.

Book number 38 in the Ring of Fire time-travel series, 1637: The French Correction was co-authored by Hunt and the late Eric Flint. It takes readers back to France on the brink of a civil war at the time of King Louis XIII. In this storyline, Gaston, brother to the late King Louis XIII, has seized the throne after his brother's murder. However, his claim is contested. Loyalists to the royal bloodline rally around the infant son of King Louis. Spies and schemers, loyalists and opportunists fuel rumors of invasion and overthrow. Meanwhile, American agents traveling through space and time from Grantville, West Virginia, quietly maneuver, introducing revolutionary ideas and technologies that could reshape the conflict.

"If you love an action-packed adventure which takes you to another time and place, this is the perfect escape," organizers said in a news release. "Who can resist the intrigue of power struggles in royalty and religion against the backdrop of 17th-century France and Spain? And who doesn't love a twist of fate, especially when it comes from technological interference?"
