Don’t let compassion foster more acts of hate

PUTNEY-Richard Evers, in his irate letter, doesn't understand why Jews in America feel unsafe.

Well, a young Jewish couple was recently murdered in public in Washington by someone who felt that these two should die because of what Israel is doing in Gaza.

The irony is that these particular people (as well as a large number of those killed on Oct. 7, 2023) were trying to find ways that Palestinians and Israelis might live together in peace.

Many, many Jews, in Israel and in the U.S., are appalled, and, yes, angry, at what Israel is doing in Gaza. That doesn't seem to matter to those who would do harm to Jews, any Jew, just because they are Jews.

Vicious antisemitism is always close by, Mr. Evers - it doesn't take much to trigger it, and it is also present here in Brattleboro (swastikas, graffiti).

Don't let your compassion for Palestinians turn into fostering more acts of hate here in the U.S.
