BRATTLEBORO-Brooks Memorial Library, in partnership with Windham World Affairs Council (WWAC) and VIM/The Commons, continues its monthly America 250 gatherings on Wednesday, June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the library's upstairs community room with special guest Breanna Sheehan, a local Elnu Abenaki member who represents the Brattleboro area on the Vermont 250 Commission.
That statewide commission is planning events around recognition of the 250th Anniversary in 2026 of the founding of the United States.
A Brattleboro Union High School and Dartmouth College graduate, Sheehan also serves as the administrative director of the Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs.
The public is invited to attend the gathering to hear her perspectives on planning for this anniversary from a Native point of view.
The fourth Wednesday monthly meetings seek to promote community conversation and planning for creative local expressions for the quincentennial, such as expanding the annual Independence Day parade in 2026 and mounting theater, music, and other special events leading up to the anniversary.
This project features regular discussions with "Constitution Wrangler" and professor Meg Mott on how our national founding language can help us navigate the challenges of our time, and other regular WWAC lectures that examine U.S. global leadership.
