Sunday concerts bring Swing and more to Saxtons River Park

SAXTONS RIVER-Music will fill the Saxtons River Park in two free Sunday concerts.

At 3 p.m. June 29, The Woodpeckers will perform early Swing of the era from 1910 to 1930. In a highly improvisational, good-humored, spontaneous, conversational and interactive style, the group interprets the exhilarating music of that time, when jazz was being born and was embraced and celebrated by young and old.

The quartet includes Ron Kelley on tenor sax, Walter Slowinski on clarinet, Jon Oltman on upright bass and Mark Anagnostopulos on rhythm guitar.

A July 27 concert, at 3 p.m., will feature Jake & Friends with local folk musician Jake Grieco on guitar. He will be joined by Cedar Stanistreet on fiddle and Jake Morrow on mandolin. Together, they create a rich blend of Celtic, Americana, bluegrass and traditional folk music, with engaging instrumental grooves and vocal harmonies.

The Saxtons River Park Committee is sponsoring the series, which is open to all. In the event of rain, the concerts will move to Main Street Arts across the street from the park.
