Republican legislation casts shadow on July 4

BRATTLEBORO-What a depressing time to celebrate Independence Day, as No. 47 and his obedient and manipulated Republicans agreed to strip away support and sustenance for the less fortunate here with the signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law.

Those whose states were promised benefits ought to be ashamed and feel tricked. Has this president followed through on any of his pre-vote promises? Only to Project 2025 has he been loyal and dedicated.

Many are counting on the midterm elections to turn this nasty spiral around, but if he and his goon squad have their way, there will be no further elections. He said so during his campaign, and many did not take this seriously - or they were, more importantly, in alignment with his hatred of undocumented immigrants and those here legally from other (despised) countries.

It is hard to feel hopeful about what is happening when the administration has created a climate of abject fear and panic. No. 47 and his crew do not care who dies, who is killed, and by what method. The fewer of us not among the elite, white, male, wealthy, the better for his agenda and comfort.

Beware. Not just Medicaid recipients will be affected. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act is the beginning of other changes Republicans deem necessary to acquire more wealth and absolute power.

We should not be celebrating this year; we should be hanging our heads in shame and disgust.
