Moore Free Library hosts puppet making workshop
NEWFANE - On Friday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to noon, Moore Free Library, 23 West St., presents "Color Our Whole World," a puppet-making workshop that follows Pezzettino (Little Piece) from Leo Lionni's book of the same name and his discovery that "being yourself is best." Children will create a PuppetKabob, a colored paper-chain puppet to celebrate all the colors in our world.
Sarah Frechette is an artist, puppeteer and founder of PuppetKabob, a puppet company that has toured nationally to schools, libraries, theaters, museums, and festivals. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut's Puppetry Arts Program. Since then, she has developed four full-length productions, toured internationally, and received the prestigious UNIMA-USA citation of excellence. Indivisible Brattleboro plans 'human banner' protest
BRATTLEBORO - On Saturday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Winston Prouty soccer fields, 209 Austine Drive, Indivisible Brattleboro will host what it calls "the next round of enjoyable Good Trouble."
"We come together to protest the ongoing destructive policies and violations of human rights and dignity by the current administration," according to an Indivisible Brattleboro news release. The huge "human banner," made up of members of the community, will be captured by overhead drone footage.
A picnic will follow, and participants are asked to bring a supper to enjoy after the banner disperses and to plan to take out what they bring in. There will be baked goods, "Resist" yard signs and "Resist" buttons for sale to raise some funds for the event.
The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 10, same time and place. Registration is requested at bit.ly/826-sign for an accurate count of participants so the size of the banner can be planned. If possible, plan to walk, bike, carpool, or take the Moover to make sure there is plenty of parking for all.
