GUILFORD-On Tuesday, Aug. 12, the Mineral Springs Farm will host "Electric Perseids," an evening of meteor stargazing and live music at the Mineral Springs Farm, 49 Carpenter Hill Rd. In case of rain or clouds, they will try again on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
The gathering starts at 8 p.m., with music beginning at 9. Guests are encouraged to bring snacks, blankets, flashlights, and chairs. Last year, more than 70 people enjoyed the celestial event and the music.
The Perseids meteor shower "is one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year," wrote organizers in a news release, and Aug. 12 is expected to be the peak night, with an estimated 100 meteors an hour visible to the naked eye.
This display will be accompanied by the extraordinary ambient music of Brattleboro's Caldon Glover, an electronic musician who creates slow industrial soundscapes with synthesizers and found sound. This will be their third time scoring a meteor shower.
Suggested parking for the general audience can be found at the lower farm field, the library, Broad Brook Community Center, and the playscape. Those who need closer access should drive on up the driveway where there is limited parking. Suggested donation is $5 to $10 with all funds for the musician.
