All Souls hosts collage works

WEST BRATTLEBORO-Lifelong mixed-media collage artist Elizabeth Lewis is showing some "puzzling bird miniatures" at All Souls Church (ASC) in West Brattleboro during the month of August. A reception for the artist will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lewis is a resident of Putney and a member of ASC, housed in the West Village Meetinghouse, where she mounted her first exhibit in 1981, the year she moved to Vermont from Los Angeles, California.

This show of collages features recently created chickadee-dee-dees that mimic human speech and broadcast the artist's personal conversations. Although some of the decorative elements came as part of a larger and more predictable formal jigsaw puzzle, the real bird characters "flew out long before the puzzle was complete, and became happy wall-dwellers," said Lewis in a news release.

All Souls Church is located in the West Village Meeting House, 29 South St., West Brattleboro, up the hill from the fire station. For more information, visit ascvt.org.
