BRATTLEBORO-The town will be modifying its parking zones on Wednesday, Sept. 3. To prepare for this transition, parking will be free on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
According to a news release, parking zones will be renamed using numbers only to streamline the payment process. Rather than typing the word "zone" followed by a number, users will simply enter a string of numbers when paying through the Park Smarter app or text-to-pay system.
For example, rather than typing "Zone1," users will enter "05301." Signs throughout the downtown area will be relabeled and color-coded to match the new parking map, available at Brattleboro.gov/parking.
To ensure users don't accidentally pay for parking in the wrong zone, three municipal lots (High Grove, Harmony, and Preston) will now include adjacent streets. Rates and time limits in these areas have been standardized.
Starting Sept. 3, the zones will be modified as follows:
• 05301 (formerly Zone 1) Main Street/Grove Street. $1.50 per hour, 2-hour maximum.
• 05302 (formerly Zone 2) Preston Lot and Flat Street. $1.50 per hour, 3-hour maximum.
• 05303 (formerly Zone 3) Transportation Center. 55 cents per hour, 10-hour maximum.
• 05304 (formerly Zone 4) Harmony Lot, Elliot & Church Streets. $1.50 per hour, 3-hour maximum.
• 05305 (formerly Zone 5) High Grove Lot and High Street. 55 cents per hour, 10-hour maximum.
• 05306 (formerly Zone 6) Harris Lot. 55 cents per hour, 10-hour maximum.
• 05307 (formerly Zone 7) Depot Lot. $1.50 per hour, 3-hour maximum.
Parking permits are available for the long-term parking lots. Learn more at Brattleboro.gov/parking-permits.
Other adjustments to the parking system will be based on public feedback since its launch last November. Enhancements will include the installation of additional kiosks downtown and an online appeal process for parking violations.
