Organizers cultivate community and joy for Pride Month in Brattleboro

Queer Sober Mixer - Wednesday, June 5, 5–7 p.m. - is described as "a platonic speed-dating event" hosted by Brit Quell and Caroline Hannon, "two queer early childhood educator buddies." No cover, but donations encouraged. The Good Spot, 580 Canal St, Unit 9.

Annual Pride Family Potluck - Out in the Open invites LGBTQ+ people, families, parents, and kids (of all ages!) to a free gathering at Winston Prouty Field, 209 Austine Dr., to celebrate the rural LGBTQ+ community together on Saturday, June 8, from noon to 3 p.m.

In-Sight Photography Project will engage in a youth-led photo and conversation project, and High 5 Adventure Learning will running a climbing wall.

OITO will provide fruit, soft drinks, hot dogs (meat, turkey, and tofu), buns, chips, plates, napkins, cutlery, and condiments. Please bring a dish to share, if you can.

This gathering will be outside. Masks welcome. "If you have Covid or are not feeling well, please stay home," organizers write.

Rainbow Ruckus - Burning Roses Burlesque, Queer Council, and the Heart Rose Club host an event that the three entities promise will be "bursting with color, glitter, and electrifying performances."

The evening - for ages 21 and older - features a cabaret with burlesque, drag, circus arts, and more, plus an all-skill-level open stage show.

Festivities take place on Saturday, June 8, from 8 to 11:55 p.m. at the Heart Rose Club, 11 Green St.

Rural LGBTQ+ Liberation March takes place on Sunday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the High-Grove Parking Lot in front of the Concrete Quilt.

Out in the Open bills the event as "A political promenade! A Strolling of the Homos! Queering Pride through rural revelry and revolution!"

People of all ages are invited to "celebrate and honor our beautiful community's history, present, and future," the organization writes. "LGBTQ+ people have always been and will always be in rural places; let's get together and show off our incredible community!"

Participants will visit a number of additional local LGBTQ+ community landmarks along the route.

Soul Food Sunday - The Root and Out In The Open will hold a mixer on Sunday, June 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Root Social Justice Center, 28 Williams St.

All ages and all folks are welcome. Bring a dish or beverage to share.

• Pride Dance Party, for all ages, hosted by Queer Council on Sunday, June 9, runs from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Heart Rose Club, 11 Green St., following the Queer Liberation March.

The event will offer a cash bar, snacks, and the music of local queer groove artist DJ Zee (aka Nikki Peruzzi).

Admission by donation (no one turned away for lack of funds), with all proceeds going toward expenses and ongoing queer programming organized by the Queer Council.

• A Queer Soup Night for all ages, hosted by Queer Council, takes place on Friday, June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fire Arts Cafe & Bakery, 485 West River Rd.

"There will be a rad silent auction at this event for fundraising," the Council says. "Plus soup!"

Entry by donation.

• A Liberation Dance will run on Friday, June 28 from 9 to 11:55 p.m. at the Stone Church, 210 Main St. DJ LeFox performs, along with local drag and burlesque artists.

Brattleboro Queer Dance Party and Cabaret is organizing the event and implores participants to "come dance like we're all free" and to "liberate your moves and wear what makes you feel like your most fabulous self."

This event is for queers and allies who are 18 and older. Admission by sliding scale, $10-20.

West River Queer Swim on Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is for all ages.

The Queer Council is hosting the free activity. Snacks and beverages will be provided.
