GUILFORD-Musical performances featuring talented members and friends of the Guilford congregation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m., at the Guilford Community Church sanctuary, 38 Church Drive, in a benefit variety show, the fifth performance in the 2023–2024 Concert Series.
According to organizers, the singers and instrumentalists will perform vocal or instrumental solos and ensembles across many genres and time periods. Brad Amidon and Michelle Markus, two professional musicians from the Boston area, will showcase their talents along with musicians associated with the congregation.
(1)Amidon will sing "Welcome to the Renaissance," the opening song from the Broadway musical Something Rotten with music and lyrics by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick. Clarinetist Markus will perform "Canzonetta" by Gabriel Pierné, accompanied by Rachel Johnson on piano.
Connie Vial Green on flute and pianist Johnson will play two movements of Telemann's Sonata in G major. A camp song medley will be sung by Terry Sylvester and Sue Owings. "Skip-A-Beat Parts 1–3" will be performed by Kachina Lee-Autenrieth and Barbara Lee with Lorianna Weathers on bass xylophone. Vocal soloist Fred Breunig will perform "One Note Off."
Andy Davis and his fiddle/accordion/piano group will perform medleys of Québecois dance tunes and a waltz. Mary Alice, Peter, and Arthur Amidon will perform "One Song." Katharine Breunig will sing "Happiest of Times with Dinah."
Carole Crompton will contribute a vocal solo. Mary Grove will present the first movement of a piano solo written by her late mother, Brooke Triplett Grove: Sonata in F# minor, Movement 1. Veteran pianist and organist Bill McKim will play two etudes composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Johnson will perform on piano Night and Day by Cole Porter and a solo by Peter Nero. Julie Peterson and Jack Wesley will contribute a vocal duet Over the Rainbow by H. Arlen and Y. Harburg with piano accompaniment.
Tickets will only be available at the door with a suggested donation (cash or check) of $15–$25 for adults; $5 for children and students. Complimentary refreshments will be served following the concert downstairs in the Zeller Hall.
