BRATTLEBORO-Former Vermont Poet Laureate Chard deNiord and former Brooklyn, New York, Poet Laureate D. Nurkse will read from their collections and share new poems at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC), on Wednesday, June 11, at 5:30 p.m.
DeNiord served as poet laureate of Vermont from 2015 to 2019. He is the author of nine books of poetry and is working on a new collection, Westminster West (Tupelo Press, 2025). He has also written two books of interviews with American poets. A resident of Westminster West, deNiord was a teacher at The Putney School. He is professor emeritus of English and creative writing at Providence College and co-founder of The New England College MFA Program.
Nurkse, who lives in Brooklyn, is the author of 12 poetry collections. He lists his accomplishments as having received fellowships from the Guggenheim, Tanne, Whiting, and NEA foundations and was given the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
He has written on human rights, taught poetry in the prison system and at The New School University and Columbia University, and is currently on the faculty at Sarah Lawrence College. He was elected to a term on the board of Amnesty International-USA.
