PUTNEY-Happenstance Theater's Pocket Moxie: A Happenstance Touring Vaudeville is coming to Sandglass Theater on Thursday, June 26, with shows at 3 and 7 p.m.
The show is billed as a lighthearted homage to the style and spirit of the Great Age of Vaudeville - a popular theater style from the late 19th and early 20th centuries made up of specialty acts, song, and dance.
Happenstance Theater's five versatile players - Gwen Grastorf, Mark Jaster, Sabrina Mandell, Sarah Olmsted Thomas, and Alex Vernon - revise classic old routines including ventriloquism, a magic act gone awry, novelty songs, a musical saw, and waiters juggling meatballs.
This family-friendly show "is teeming with hijinks, harmonies, nostalgic beauty, and physical comedy with something for everyone," wrote organizers in a news release.
Award-winning Happenstance Theater is a professional company committed to devising and producing original, performer-created, visual, poetic theater. Washington (D.C.) City Paper calls Happenstance Theater's ensemble comedy "a gut-busting kind of funny."
Tickets are $20 and are available at bit.ly/820-moxie.
