Four bands with local connections to perform in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO-Four bands led by women will be performing at Marigold, 157 Main St. on Sunday, July 20 starting at 7:30 p.m. Members of the bands have Brattleboro roots.

From New Orleans, Keaton Schiller and Lyla George will each be playing indie rock sets with their bands.

Schiller, a New Orleans-based singer-songwriter, sings gritty melodies with strikingly intimate lyrics. George has developed her craft as a singer, writer and guitarist blending the hectic sounds of the metropolitan New York streets with the sounds of New Orleans, where she has become a seasoned performer and familiar presence.

Marigold in Brattleboro will be the last stop of a five-gig joint Northeast tour for Schiller and George, who will be joined by two separate bands of young New Orleans musicians: Carter Wilkinson, a Gibson G3 guitar program artist, and Jess Aratin on guitars, Ellis McLean and Adam Samolsky on bass, and Shout Young and Jamie Koffler on keys.

The drummer for both these bands is New Orleans–based Brattleboro native Jake Gartenstein, who is and will be on the road throughout the summer and fall of 2025 playing drums with a run of different bands and performers across the United States and in Europe.

Deerest, featuring Dharma Ramirez, also will be performing a set. Dharma was a member of 2012 Brattleboro Battle of the Bands winner The Snaz. Ramirez has since continued to write and perform professionally in the New England and New York music scenes.

Also on the bill is western Massachusetts–based band Kalliope Jones, a post-rock power trio that blends R&B, pop punk, and alt-indie music.
